The World is by far the most lucrative and exclusive of Nakheel's developments. But, the islands being sold as a blank canvas and plots costing way in excess of $1M, Nakheel needed a campaign to spark the imagination of potential buyers and make them want to come for a tour of the development.
The Legacy was our answer to the challenge. At the core of our proposal was one island, a blank canvas, given to the world to be creative with. The users around the globe would be invited to express their creativity through any medium accessible to them and the tools available on the site. A panel of judges would include celebrities in the architecture and design world. The people, alongside the likes of Zaha Hadid, Philippe Stark and Rem Koolhaas would choose the finalists and a group of dedicated CG artists would bring these proposals to life for the final round.
The ultimate prize - have your vision built on a real island in Dubai. The island would be launched with a party and a spectacular fireworks display and be then open to the public.
As fantastical as it soulds, the project has been approved by Nakheel at a staggering budget of $9M. It was agreed that one more island would be built much closer to the shore, to make it more accessible and keep the World as exclusive as was intended.
